UNIT 10 - CAUSE AND EFFECT ESSAY

The truth about Tv technology

This century is going to be characterized because of the technology advances and new devices. One of them is the Televition, which has evolve fast in this past years because of  the constant competition with the internet and computers. Because of that, now a TV could be as necessary as a computer. However, despite all its new characteristics there is still a huge controversy about he possitive and negative effects of its constant use. I beleive that this new Televition would bring more bad consequences to our lifes.

One of the strongest arguments agains this technology is that will be causing adiction if people use it too much. As a result, more and more people  (specially kids) will have difficult health problems like obesity or visual problems. With a more interactive and complete TV, people wouldn't have enought incentives to go out to have some fresh air or to do some exersices. Also, being exposed too much hours to a big screen will cause visual diseases like miopia or astigmatismo. These can't be cured and the person afected would have to use glasses their entire life or pass throught a laser surgery. All these problems could be avoided if you don't use your TV in excess.

On the contrary, the TV also has positive effects. For example, will provide a new whole way to comunicate and entertaining. In a smart TV you can navigate through internet, check your emails or chat with friends without leaving your comfortable couch. Consequently, more people will be more conected. Entire families or friends would be more closed thanks to this technology. In adition, this TV has plenty of ways for entertaiment like games, internet and movies. This will definately change our perception of entertaiment.

Finally, I strongly believe that these new TVs are not beneficiary for people. If it is use for too much hours can cause adiction and some difficult health problems in people. On the other hand, the development of this technology will create a whole new way of entertaiment and comunication. Nevertheless, I consider that this technology is dangerous to the majority of people.

UNIT 9 - COMPARISON AND CONTRAST ESSAY

My life in Brazil

When you moved to another country you can find many difficulties when you trye to adapt. This is because each country has their own culture, language and traditions. I am from Lima Peru but one year ago I had to traveled to Brazil and I spent there like 6 months. I was fascinated by the culture and the incredible people that I could met there; however, I believe that my life in Lima was more pleasant.

In Lima the weather is warm.  There are only two principal seasons: winter and summer. In contrast, in Brazil it's hot almost all the year and in summer is beyond all bearing. I couln't adapt to that kind of weather. In adition, in Lima there is no extreme cold because its located in a very warm zone. On the other hand, Rio de Janeiro is extreme hot in summers, since its located near to the Atlantic Ocean. Other important characteristic is the kind of transportation. In Lima, the public transportation is chaotic and disorganized. There are lots of buses fighting all the time, trying to gain enough passengers and because of that people's lifes are usually at stake. In Rio, the transportation is very well organized, there are subways, taxis and buses. The most remarcable thing is that everybody tryes to follow the rules and respect the other drivers and pedestrians. Nevertheless, I was always lost in Rio, it was difficult to learn the propper rutes to arrive home. While at Lime I knew all the highways and places to orientate myself.

Finally, I strongly consider that my life was more easy in Lima than in Rio. First, the weather in Brazil is extreme hot and changes slightly through the year. Second, the transportation was well organized but it was difficult for me to orientated in the streets of Rio de Janeiro. Despite all its difficulties I really enjoyed spent those 6 months in that beautiful city, but I definately could never change the releive of being in Lima, my hometown.

UNIT 8 - NARRATIVE ESSAY

The most important tradicion for my family

When I think about the most important tradition in my family, I think back on Christmas. This holiday was the most fun and interesting for me and my brother when we were kids. It wasn't fancy and we didn't received tons of presents, but it is important for many other reasons.

Every morning of December 24th I got up at 6 am. I clearly remember the sun light coming throught my window, this always tolds me that was Christmas time. After having a delicious breakfast with my parents and grandparents, we carry all the presents for our family in the car and we started the visits. First, we went to my aunt's house. There we share an special moment with all my cousins and other granparents.Second, we went to my other aunt's house. While all the adults talked and drink hot chocolate, my cousins Roberto and Carlos played with me and my brother. It was really messy and fun. Next, we visit our aunt Nelly and our great grandmother Mamacho. We have lunch with them, it was always prepared by my aunt Nelly and Mamacho usually made the hot chocolate. I really  love the taste of that meal.

At night we returned to our house in Comas, to spent Christmas Eve with our grandparents. All the presents that we recolected through the day were accomodate at the foot of the Christmas tree. At 9 pm all of us reunite in the table to dinner. These was conformed by a very juicy Turckey, fresh russian salad and a delitious applesauce. After that, we open the presents at 12 pm and when we finished all of us ran towards the thirt floor to watched the beautiful and noisy fireworks. At that moment, we all hugs everybody and sing Christmas songs. By the time I went to sleep I couldn't stopped smiling when thinking how great was the day.

UNIT 7 - CLASSIFICATION ESSAY

Types of schools in Peru

Education in Peru evolved in the past years and now you can find a big list of schools where your kids can study. However, to choose the correct school you first have to evaluate if your kid should study in a private school or a public one. In this text I will share some informaction about school's in Peru. So, if you want to figurate out which kind of school is a viable option, you need to consider: the price, the infraestructure and kinds of text books.

One common type of school in Peru is Public schools. In this kind of schools the price is really low, and in some cases (for example if your kid get a scholarship) you don't need to pay anything. However, the kind of infraestructure isn't the aproppiate. Public schools sometimes don't receive all the help that they deserved, since the goverment (specially the Education Minister) is the principal responsable of provides all the materials and technology that kids need. For this reason, the quality of text books in some public schools is really low. Fortunately, not all public schools have this difficult situation. There are some of them that have a very good infraestructure and provides excelent education to kids. But these only are avaliable to families in difficult monetary situations.

The other type of school in Peru is Private schools. The prices in this kind of school are really high, sometimes the pay reaches the amount of 1000 soles. This depends on the location of the school, if it's in a normal distric the prices are over 500 soles; on the contrary, prices increases dramatically in expensive districs like La Molina or Surco. The infraestructure is the correct in many of them and also povides access to advance tecnology and materials. About text books, parents are the responsable to buy them. Private schools usually work together with Editorials to find the best books that kids need.

Finally, both types of school has their pros and cons. A public school coul be an option if you don't have enought money to pay the expensive amounts of a private one. Nevertheless, you need to investigate first the quality of infraestructure and text books because sometimes those are not the propiate material that your kid needs. A Private school is the best choise in Peru if you think that infraestructure and text books are the principal facts in a good school. However, I strongly recomend that you should investigate the quality of education because sometimes the high prices don't prove that the school is the best one. At last, it's in your hands wich kind of school is the best for your kids.
